Benji is a loveable 1 year old, 20lb, maltese mix boy who was surrendered to the city shelter. As soon as we found out about him, we knew we needed to help this angel. Benji is a spunky little guy who loves hard. It does take time to earn his trust, though. With one ear constantly flopped over and the other at attention, our heart will melt when he cocks his head looking at you. In his former life, Benji loved other dogs and children. However, he was bullied and traumatized by the resident dog in his former home. This dog was larger than Benji and had resource guarding. For this reason, he avoided the other dog. If his forever home has other dogs, they should be kind and patient. At this time, he should not be placed in a home with small children. Benji needs a quiet and experienced home that will allow him to blossom. Perhaps, he can have young human friends in the future, but not right now.
Benji is in a rehab foster home to work with him on his former trauma with the other dog and to learn to channel his energy. He is also learning to trust new people. Thus far, Benji made tremendous progress in a short amount of time. We are confident he will make a wonderful companion to the right family. With his foster and our trainers, Benji is working hard to be the best good boy he can be and prepare for his adoption.
