On 3/28/12 we started our rescue of our regal blue nose razor pit bull Bear (renamed Harley) from Jamaica, Queens. At 11pm, our rescue received an urgent phone call from a lady stating her neighbor was about to dump his dog onto the Belt Parkway in Queens, NY. The neighbor stopped him and contacted us. Bear’s rescue turned into a frantic chase and a race against time. We only had a few hours to get him out .Once we told the owner that we were on the way, he told them that if they did not come soon he would tie Bear to a tree in the local park. That night, when we arrived at the home, there was no answer. We waited until 3 am near the home and then started searching the nearby park and all the trees we could find. We also checked the freeways and saw nothing. Then, at 5 am we got another call from the owner apologizing for falling asleep. We made arrangements to get Bear the next day. Finally, the rescue ended almost 24 hours after the first initial phone call.
Harley Bear is the definition of a gentle giant. He is about 11 months old and 72 lbs. However, you would never feel his weight on you as he delicately puts is paws on you. If he could, he would spend the day on your lab and by your side giving you kisses. Due to his size, he would require an experienced or especially strong adopter. However, Harely Bear is eager to please and love!
