FLETCHER now BIGGIE ADOPTED 5/25/13 LIVING FOREVER FREE IN NJ
We are very very sorry ladies fur and human, however Fletcher is now off the market and he has done an incredible job selecting his new family. Fetcher was dumped in a HIGH kill shelter twice and adopted out from the same kill shelter twice to unsuitable homes that neglected him and dumped him back in the shelter. Lucky for us Fletcher let us become the rescue that guides him into his new life. When Fletcher first entered the shelter his kennel card stated he was 60 pounds, today he is a robust 90 pounds hence his new name BIGGIE given to him by his family. It’s hard to put into words the true love, compassion, and understanding his new family has for Fletcher and pit bulls. They will forever share their life and love with Fletcher and his fur sibling Yogi. Each day the pups will be spoiled with comfy beds, long walks and tasty treats. Once again TPR has been blessed with another amazing family for another one of our amazing pit bulls. We love you Fletcher and Yogi and your new mom/dad.
Who is this handsome boy? So glad you asked! This is Fletcher our 1 (ish) year old pit mix. This darling has had a rough start to his life and spent more time than any pup should going in and our of shelters, but NO fault of his own! Fletcher is another one of our babies that is constantly described as a ‘perfect’ dog. Crate trained, dog friendly, and playful, this boy is almost too good to be true! He likes dogs and humans from all walks of life and sizes! Ideally, Fletcher would do well in an active home or one with another playful dog. He is so eager to have a four-legged buddy! Also, Fletcher is not a barker! In fact, he will snuggle with you until all hours of the night- or afternoon- or morning! Fletcher is a young boy with a lifetime of companionship, devotion, and kisses to give you! He just needs you to give him a chance at true love! From his foster mom: (After just a week of knowing him he’s proved what an ambassador for his breed he really is)
I can honestly say he will make a great pet for someone. We’ve been working on his leash manners and he is getting so much better. It’s like he was just needing to trust me. He’s calmed way down and is even giving Mia paw, which he did not know before. He slept with me, Lulu and Nellie last night and he and I were spoonin’. He snuggled right in next to me. He is a big ox/oaf but he’ll be a great family dog. He LOVES his people. When I first brought him home he was wincing when I went to pet him so he must have been beaten. Now, however, he comes in for hugs and kisses and LOVES getting his face washed with a warm wash cloth in the morning.
He’s the first one to sit a meal time and for treats. He would be a glutton with his food if you let him. I don’t have to worry about crumbs on the floor with him around 🙂 And he apparently like Lucky Charms and oatmeal with almonds. Mia feeds him off a spoon.
He is a big lug head and very playful. He literally makes you laugh at him. The other day, when it snowed being out in the backyard you could see the joy on his face. He just LOVES it. Runs and hops, so he can kind of skid out. He saw a drift in the snow, what he thought was a pile and dove straight into it. Unfortunately, it ended up being a small bush and he got a couple of scratches, on his face. LOL. I’m grateful he didn’t poke his eye out. He just shook that off and continued running. I would love to see him around a pool, I bet he’d go right in.
He is probably one of the prettiest pit bulls I’ve ever seen. His coloring is so unique. And he absolutely LOVES Mia my 4 yr. old. He follows her around when she pushes her babies in her shopping cart, and actually wore a tutu for about 8 minutes the other night. When she sat at her little table to color, he sat on the floor next to the table. He tilted his head and looked at her like “ah, kid what are we gonna do next!?!”
He’s doing really good with commands. Sit, Paw, Down, Enough. He seems to be a nervous pee’er, but I think that is expected given his situation. He’s not lifting his leg. I was worried about the peeing but once he got comfortable he seemed OK. Like he was thinking, “I’m not going to piss on my people’s things.” The other thing I noticed is that if we are walking into a room he’s starting to wait for me to go first, so he’s getting his pack order, unless he really has to go potty and then he’s the first one at the back door.
Again, he is big, and is the same height as my kitchen table. He literally goes under there and then proceeds to thump his head and looks at you like “what gives?” His tail is always wagging, and is kind of like a whip. LOL. He was so excited when I brought him home that he was banging it against my paneled wall so hard that my other dogs thought someone was knocking at the door. And at times he literally hits himself with it and then tries to bite it/chase it. Kind of like a bull in a china shop.
Now, I have to admit, I’m not a Pit person, I don’t have issues with them, I’ve just never had one and to be honest, I shied away from them. I will say this…he’s turned me. If I didn’t have 4 dogs already, he would probably be staying. He loves his people and wants to be with them as much as possible, especially kids. In my opinion he’d make an awesome family dog. He does like to rough house with my other dog and he seems to love the tug o war rope. It’s friendly play though and as with anything, his introduction should be gradual. Oh and I don’t think he would do well with a very dominant male. He’s not dominant but with his size, I don’t see that being a good fit. He does get along great with my old male Lab but he’s a big softy. Play groups or daycare would probably be a great thing for him!
He responds well to Fletcher however for some reason I keep wanting to call him Bruce. I’ve been singing him the ELO song “don’t bring me down”. Oh, he does like to dance. We do this thing in my kitchen and he seems to enjoy it. Especially Ray Charles “the mess around”………
