MAXINE ADOPTED 11/12/12 LIVING FOREVER FREE IN NEW YORK
We trust the before and after picture here makes a colossal statement. Maxine is the result of a puppy mill breeder thrown in the shelter like trash when the humans were finished with her. Daily her forever mommy is teaching Maxine the proper skills on dog life. Maxine and her mom make an unbelievable match for each other bona fide best friends.
Thank You to her mom! You have stepped up to guide this angel into a new life. Thank you to Kelly and hubby for giving Maxine/now Roxanne a much needed makeover.
Maxine. Maxine is a darling that fell victim to a life of horrifying neglect. She was a puppy mill dog! She is just a year old and peppy as can be, our guess is she was dumped at the shelter because she was no longer young and cute enough to sell or did not produce the puppies (or in their mind merchandise) they wanted. Her thirst for human love and affection is endearing and worthy. She does well with other dogs, but would not mind being the only furbaby of the home. She was dumped at a a shelter and scheduled to be euthanized. Why would this young darling be slated for death? Not only was she so horribly matted that you could never guess her size, weight, personality, or breed, but she also did not present well in the crate. We pulled her and her amazing temp foster parents cared for her and helped peel off the torture afflicting her daily life. She is one of many dogs that people spend tons of money on to have as a status symbol and then fail to care for. Dogs, such as herself, that do not shed need to be brushed DAILY or at least every other day to prevent matting. When a dog is matted, it is incredibly painful and cuts off blood and air circulation to the skin. Thus, not only is the skin pulled on causing tremendous pain, but it dies and becomes scarred and necrotic as well. Maxine handled everything with grace and patience, she knew we all just want to help her. Now that the true Maxine is visible, we guess she is a Scottish Terrier/Lhasa mix and under 12 lbs. When we pulled her she was about 15 lbs; that’s right she was carrying 3 pounds of matted heavy hair on her! Also, her skin is doing very well, she’s a lucky girl! She continues to work on her potty training and taking to it very well. She would thrive in a peaceful home and is searching for the ying to her yang.
